EmpowerHer Workshops – Now Online & Starting June 2025

Tambu Ayis Support Service (TASS) is pleased to announce that our EmpowerHer wellbeing and empowerment workshops are returning in June 2025 with an exciting new development: they will now be delivered online.

This change makes the programme more accessible to women across London and beyond, especially those who may not be able to attend in person. The workshops will run on Thursday evenings from 8:00 PM to 9:30 PM, offering a safe, supportive space for African and Caribbean women to explore resilience, self-esteem, and recovery from trauma and gender-based violence.

The 10-week programme includes sessions on:

  • Self-care and emotional wellbeing

  • Healthy relationships and boundaries

  • Financial well-being and independence

  • Cultural identity and empowerment

  • Trauma healing and resilience building

The online sessions will be delivered via Zoom and are means-tested: women who are able to contribute a small fee will help sustain the programme, while those facing financial hardship can attend for free.

Women of Grace UK CIC

Valerie Lolomari, Founder of Women of Grace, recently gave oral evidence at the House of Commons to the Women and Equalities Committee, where she highlighted the prevalence of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the UK, its devastating impact on survivors, and the critical need for stronger government intervention.

In addition, Ms. Lolomari was invited to speak at the European Parliament in Brussels on International Zero Tolerance Day. During her address, she emphasized the importance of creating safe, supportive spaces where survivors of FGM can heal, rebuild their lives, and thrive.

Through these high-level engagements, Valerie Lolomari continues to advocate for meaningful policy changes and increased support for survivors, working tirelessly toward a future free from FGM.

“The fight continues,” she says, as she calls on policymakers and communities alike to join in ending this harmful practice and ensuring equality and justice for all women and girls.

Standing Together Against the Sexualisation of Kids: How the Sex Industry Affects Us All

Conference: Bradford, Saturday 7 June 2025

Children are not OK. The Netflix series, Adolescence, shone a light on the online radicalisation of boys by the ‘manosphere’ while scandals around so-called grooming gangs in the north of England have raised public anxiety about the sexual exploitation of girls.

But missing from much of the discussion of these trends is the role of pornography and prostitution, and the normalisation of these practices in our culture. We are grooming children to believe that a girl’s main role in life is to be sexy and that boys are more important than girls.

Social media amplifies these trends: girls are sold the lie that monetising their image and sexuality is an easy and safe way to fame and fortune; boys learn that to become a man they must act out the brutal practices they’ve seen in violent, misogynistic porn.

Stuck in the middle, is it any wonder so many children and young people are struggling.

This conference will take a critical look at how the sex industry is hoodwinking all of us to believe the unbelievable and discuss what we, as adults, can do to rewrite the script.

Date: Saturday 7 June 2025

Time: 10.30 AM – 5.00 PM BST

Entrance: Tickets on a sliding scale from £3 - £25 Find out more and get tickets here: Eventbrite Registration

The updated NPCC ‘Sex Work National Police Guidance’: Pandering to men and failing women

Last year UK police chiefs ran a closed consultation on their national guidance on policing prostitution in response to a legal challenge from Not Buying It. They have now released an updated version of the guidance. The changes can be summed up as superficial but on the whole the guidance still panders to men and fails women.

Our concerns are focused on the shallow understanding of how the sex industry works and its impact on the wider community, the idea that the police can successfully “safeguard” women who are involved in prostitution, the partnering with pimping websites, and the emphasis on lack of enforcement of the legislation against brothels, pimps, and sex buyers. We would go as far as to suggest that this guidance goes both beyond the law that has been democratically passed by Parliament and the legitimate role of the police.
