  1. Take Action
  2. Get Your Voice Heard

Get your voice heard

Want to make your voice heard on issues related to women's human rights but don't know how?

Want to stay up-to-date with matters related to the women's sector and women's equality but not sure where to turn?

Don't worry, there're plenty of ways you can get your voice heard -  and WRC would love to hear it!

1) Join the WRC Community

Become a WRC member and join the growing WRC community! WRC aims to be a voice and champion for the women's sector and for women's human rights. As a member, you will be part of this movement and will have the opportunity to have your voice heard, to learn from others, to contribute to policy consultations and responses, to have access to WRC training and events, and much more!

2) Write a blog

We are always looking for contributors to the WRC blog! If you have something to say about the state of women's human rights, the women's sector, feminism, intersectionality, in the UK or abroad, we would love to hear from you!

Maybe you have a really interesting feminist perspective on climate change. Maybe you have a story you want to share about the value of the sisterhood. Maybe you have an amazing woman in your life you would like to interview. Or maybe you're just looking for a place to articulate and publish your rage on the patriarchy.

For more information about writing a blog, contact us.

3) Contribute to surveys, consultations and research projects on matters relating to the women's sector and women's rights

WRC undertakes regular research projects on the state of the women's sector and women's rights in the UK. WRC also responds to  a variety of policy consultations every year.

For us to do this in a way to champion to our membership and to be a voice for the sector, it is crucial that we hear from you and receive your input.

As a member, you will have the opportunity to get your voice heard in our surveys, reports and consultation responses. We post all our calls for engagement on our social media channels. You can track our latest open calls for evidence by searching #ActionWRC on Twitter.

4) Engage with CEDAW

CEDAW is the UN Convention on the Elimination of all forms of Discrimination Against Women, or sometimes called the international Bill of Rights for women. WRC work tirelessly on CEDAW and have for decades been the coordinator of the production of the UK Shadow Report.

We believe CEDAW is an extremely valuable tool to promote and protect women's rights. We do understand though that CEDAW can seem very complicated, but don't worry. Have a look through our Guide to CEDAW or find more information how you can engage with the framework:

5) Sign up to one of our training courses or events

WRC delivers a range of training and events every year. We endeavour to make these as interactive as possible so that participants will have the chance to get their voice heard, share learning with others, and to engage in reflective dialogue and active listening. Make sure to keep an eye out on our training calendar to stay abreast on our upcoming training and events!

6) Support WRC in everyday ways

Support in your own way through small everyday actions that can really make a difference. Here are a few options to consider.

easyfundraising

Women's Resource Centre is registered with easyfundraising.org.uk, which means over 8,000 brands– including eBay, Argos, John Lewis, ASOS, Booking.com and M&S–will donate to us for FREE every time you use easyfundraising to shop with them. Whenever you buy anything online – from your weekly shop to your annual holiday – you could raise free donations to help fund our work.

Payroll Giving/Give as you Earn

Give As You Earn (GAYE) is completely tax-free, allowing you to give to any registered charity from your pay before any tax is deducted. Because your donation is taken from your pre-tax salary, it means that part of your donation comes from money that would have otherwise gone to HMRC. It’s a tax-efficient way of giving to a registered charity of your choice. You have complete control. Speak to your employer about setting up Give As You Earn (GAYE) or Payroll Giving through the company payroll. Alternatively, visit CharitableGiving to set up Give as you Earn as an individual.

7) Fundraise for us

WRC is a small charity without a fundraising team. This means that while we would love to be able to be able to host fundraising events, glamorous galas and exciting challenges, we just don't have the capacity to do so - it's a vicious circle! We would therefore be absolutely overjoyed if you have the passion, commitment, imagination and drive to fundraise for us! Here are some ideas of what that could look like:

Run a race

Challenge yourself to run that race that you never thought you would do. It's not about being the fastest or the best - it's about embracing your resilience and both inner and outer strength! Ask your friends, colleagues, family members to donate to the cause you're racing for.

Organise feminist coffee mornings and/or a feminist book club

Do you want to discuss feminism and feminist values and concepts such as intersectionality and collectivity but don't know who to talk to? Organise an event and invite people that you think might feel the same way. Ask us for a reading and watch list of feminist books, talks and essays or maybe check out our voices from the sector page.

Organise a self-care event

Self-care is a feminist principle. Put on an event about the importance of taking a step back, giving yourself time and space, and allowing yourself to remove the 'shoulds' and 'musts' in your life. These breaks from everyday life are so valuable. Ask participants to donate whatever they can, however small, so that we can continue our work to support a thriving women's sector and promote women's rights.

Or maybe your a singer, performer, artist, actor or poet and would like to raise money at one of your gigs to us?

Let us know if you would be interested in fundraising for us, we would love to hear from you and will obviously be there to cheer you on! You will also feature on our website as a friend of WRC (if you want to of course).

8) Do a small act of resistance

Still not sure what to do but really want to do something for women's rights? Have a look at our page with a list of small acts of resistance - while small they go a long way!
