This briefing provides information on Part 3 of the Domestic Abuse Act 2021 (“DA Act”). This part of the Act covers the new Domestic Abuse Protection Notices (DAPNs) and Domestic Abuse Protection Orders (DAPOs).

The statutory guidance published by the government for the DA Act sets out standards and best practice for statutory bodies and others (including, for example, the police, local authorities, the NHS, and domestic abuse services).

The DA Act says that public bodies must have regard to the statutory guidance when exercising their public functions. The guidance applies to England, and in Wales for matters that are reserved to the UK government, primarily policing, criminal, civil and family justice.
