News Blogs & News Why Labrys Security is Leading the Way in Women-Focused Protection At WRC, we champion organisations that prioritise safety and empowerment for women and girls. One such groundbreaking organisation is Labrys Security, the UK’s first all-female security company led by Liane Timmermann and Di Winn. Labrys Security doesn’t just provide security; it creates safe spaces with a team of trained, compassionate women who understand the unique safety needs women face. In Part 1 of this two-part feature, Liane and Di discuss their journeys into security, what makes Labrys unique, and the importance of a woman-focused approach. Q&A with Labrys Security: Part 1 | Inspiration and Unique Approach Q: Can you tell us about your background and what inspired you to start Labrys Security, a women-focused security company? Liane: I’ve worked in security for twenty years and have seen the difference a female presence can make in mixed teams, especially for women and girls. I knew an all-female security team could completely transform the experience at events. Women and girls often tell me they feel safer and more comfortable when they see an all-female team. Founding Labrys allows us to grow this impact, offer women career opportunities, and show that women excel in this field. Di: My journey into security was unique. After an injury ended my career as a truck driver, I focused on rehabilitation and activism. When I joined Liane’s team for the FiLiA conference in Glasgow, I saw how grateful women were for our protection. It was fulfilling beyond words, and I knew we could do more with an all-female company. I approached Liane, and Labrys was born. Q: What unique security challenges do women face that Labrys Security seeks to address? Women often feel intimidated by male security teams, which can dampen their event experience. Our all-women team creates a safe environment, understanding the unique experiences women have. We notice the relief on attendees' faces—they feel safe, unbothered, and confident in asking for help. This transforms the atmosphere, making events welcoming and empowering. Q: How does your team approach women’s security differently from traditional firms? We observe group dynamics closely and listen to women during planning and throughout the event. Our team’s conflict-management and de-escalation skills, combined with full SIA qualifications, mean we’re prepared to protect without intimidation. The calmness our presence brings plays a fundamental part in the success of any event. Q: What services does Labrys Security offer to enhance safety at women-centred events? Labrys Security covers a range of events—conferences, rallies, marches, private events, and even personal gatherings like weddings. We work with clients to tailor our services, understanding our role is essential to event success. Anywhere women feel they need support, we are ready to provide it.
