"I have never felt so heard, seen and supported in a space. The trainers are incredible leaders and were so knowledgable. They really ensured that everyone was included. I loved everything about the course - the facilitators approach, the group activities, the structure, the expectations to be present and attend every session."

What's it about?

This programme provides you with theoretical and practical skills in feminist leadership that you will be able to apply in your life, in your organisation and in your community.

Who's it for?

This is for women staff members or volunteers at women’s voluntary and community organisations in the UK. The programme welcomes all women to apply but will prioritise the following groups:

  • Black and minoritised women
  • Emerging rather than established leaders/those with little or no experience of leadership

Programme content

This is a training programme on Feminist Leadership which will provide you with practical and analytical skills in leadership that you will be able to apply in your own organisation and in your community.

The training programme for the online sessions will consist of six 3.5-hours.

The face to face sessions will be delivered over three days from 9:30 am to 5:00 pm in London, Nottingham and Liverpool.

The programme covers the following topics:

Feminist Leadership - an introduction

Introducing feminism and intersectionality through a combination of theory and exercises. We discuss leadership through various exercises and cover topics of what we associate with leaders, traditional assumptions of leadership and the relationship with feminism.

Emotional Intelligence

Investigating the ‘four components’ of emotional intelligence through group work and self-reflection and analyse whether and how emotional intelligence is important to the feminist leader.

Unchecked Bias Interrupted

We explore what unconscious bias is and where it originates from. We will consider ways in which it can manifest in the workplace and we will explore methods and tools for interrupting and challenging unconscious bias to become part of the organisational culture.

Power

We investigate the concept of power, including its meaning and where and how it’s manifested. We also explore personal relationships with power and its influence on leadership and the relationship between power and empowerment.

Presentation and Pitching

Investigating techniques and tips on presentation and pitching through theory and practical action learning elements.

Burnout: Signs, Impact, Prevention

We investigate what burnout is, its symptoms and what causes burnout at the workplace. We thereafter consider measures, policies and procedures that the work place could take to prevent burnout happening to their staff.

Project Management

Exploring areas and aspects of project management and provides the participant with various project management tools and techniques.

Relationship Management

This session explores elements relevant to relationship management, including communication and learning styles, conflict management and understanding different personalities through self-reflection, group work and practical exercises.

Values and Organisational Culture

We explore how and whether values and principles of feminist leadership are reflected in organisational practices and its impact on organisational culture.

Negotiation Skills

Negotiation is part of our lives and we negotiate on a daily basis but when it comes to negotiating in our professional life, it can feel daunting. This session explores negotiation skills and tools through self-reflection, group work and practical exercises.

Applying your learning and reflections

The last session of the programme will be tailored by the women in the group, we have therefore not prescribed a theme or topic of the session. The session will be action learning-based and will focus on reflections and how the training will and can be applied in practice.

NB: the different topics/themes in the description above will be covered, however the trainers reserves the right to change the order in which each topic is covered.

"The programme will help my career by giving me the tools, skills, knowledge the understanding, confidence to progress in my career on many levels.  E.g understanding burnout and how to prevent it on a personal and organisation level that links to organisation wellbeing, policies and procedures.  Having a fresh understanding of project management tools and techniques.  Presenting and pitching in a positive and impactful where will help me challenge and address social issues affecting my community and women in my community to various audiences.  In true authentic feminist leadership style."

"I can not thank you enough for granting me the space on the feminist leaders programme.  I truly feel a different person for having been a part of this years cohort.  I joined not really knowing what a feminist leader was, not feeling worthy compared to my colleagues, undervaluing myself and believing my skills in no way matched those of others.  I would not put myself forward to speak and hid in breakout rooms rather than taking part.  Fast forwards 6 weeks and my perspective has changed.  I left with a lightness to my chest, like feeling a huge weight of the mask I hid behind had lifted.  I feel valued, understood, appreciated, more self confident and with a greater understanding of my resilience and worth as a person and as a leader.  Everything that my friends and colleagues have been telling me along, but until now had not believed.  This experience has truly been life changing and I can not wait to see where my journey takes me to next"
