Date: 22 October
Time: 9:30 - 13:45
Venue: Shelter Training, London EC1V 2PU
Violence against women persists as one of the most systematic and prevalent human rights abuses in the world. It is a threat to all women, and an obstacle to efforts for development, peace, and gender equality in all societies. For young women who experience violence, their lives are then deprived of their rights, security, dignity and their dreams
This free seminar will showcase agencies that are working with young women who are vulnerable to sexual exploitation, forced marriage, female genital mutilation, domestic violence and gang violence, along with other forms of abuse.
The speakers will include:
- Baljit Banga, Director, Newham Asian Women’s Project
- Nicola Weller, Head of Children and Young People's Services, The Nia Project
- Carlene Firmin, Policy Officer, ROTA
You will come away from the seminar with:
- a deeper awareness and understanding of the issues around young women and violence
- a range of useful tools and creative ways to engage in working with young women
Women and Girls Network (WGN) and WRC will be holding a programme of Professional Exchange Seminars as part of the Sharing Our Strengths project. The seminars will bring together practitioners to discuss and explore issues relating to best practice around violence against women (VAW). The seminars aim to help develop a multi-disciplinary community of shared learning, knowledge and practice by promoting and encouraging professional networking.
