Child protection dilemmas

Date: Tuesday 31 January 2012

Time: 10am - 1pm

Venue: Resource for London, 356 Holloway Road, London N7 6PA

This is a free seminar for workers in the child protection and safeguarding arena who would like to gain an understanding of the basics of child protection and safeguarding processes, focusing on the dilemmas faced by organisations in their work. The seminar will assist participants to develop awareness and understanding of the basics of child protection and safeguarding processes and to explore current child protection and safeguarding dilemmas from their agency’s perspective.

At the end of the session participants will be able to identify what is meant by safeguarding and child abuse.

  • Define child protection and safeguarding
  • Identify the signs and indicators of abuse
  • Identify the relevant legislation and guidance that governs child protection and safeguarding children and young people.
  • Explore own agency’s child protection dilemmas, with use of case studies, to enable appropriate responses to concerns.

Participants with child protection or safeguarding dilemmas should send these in to organisers at least two weeks before the event.

This seminar will be facilitated by

  • Michelle Springer-Benjamin, Training Manager, Women and Girls Network
  • Akima Thomas, Clinical Director, Women and Girls Network

Women and Girls Network (WGN) and the Women's Resource Centre (WRC) are providing a programme of Professional Exchange Seminars as part of the Sharing Our Strengths project. The seminars will bring together practitioners to discuss and explore issues relating to best practice around violence against women (VAW). The seminars aim to help develop a multi-disciplinary community of shared learning, knowledge and practice by promoting and encouraging professional networking.
