The Testimony Project
The Testimony Project is a new project giving voice to women asylum seekers. Launched at the end of July, the website features testimony from women asylum-seekers, as well as legal information and sign-posting to relevant organisations. It also features a forum where women can voice their experiences of seeking asylum in the UK, share useful information with others, and seek essential, practical support and advice.
Charter of rights of women seeking asylum
One of the speakers at the project's launch was Debora Singer, from the Refugee Women's Resource Project. They have drawn up a Charter of rights of women seeking asylum. This demands the UK Border Agency (UKBA) end the discriminatory treatment of women asylum seekers. So far over 150 organisations have endorsed the Charter, mostly from the refugee, women’s and human rights sectors. They are now seeking further endorsements to show the UK Border Agency that this is a major concern.
To endorse the Charter, just send an email to charter@asylumaid.org.uk with your organisation’s name stating that you are endorsing the Charter.
