Celebrating International Women's Day
International Women’s Day is fast approaching and many organisations are planning events to campaign for women’s rights and celebrate the work of women activists - here’s our pick of IWD events coming up around 8 March:
Million Women Rise will be holding their annual International Women’s Day March on Saturday 6 March. Each year, thousands of women march through London in protest against violence against women. This year, women will march from Hyde Park to Piccadilly, with a rally and celebration at Trafalgar Square from 3pm. For more info see their site.
Welsh Women’s Aid are holding a conference on women’s inequality in Welsh society, Between the Glass Ceiling and the Mud Floor, on 16 March. Speakers at the event will focus on the links between gendered violence and women’s under representation in political and public life. This is a free event but places are limited, please contact Becky Jones on 02920 390 874.
Amnesty International UK are also holding events at the Human Rights Action Centre, including a panel discussion on the media’s treatment of women’s rights and its focus on sexuality in
‘Anyone here been raped and speak English?
In Manchester, there will be events throughout International Women's Day at the Pankhurst Centre and
LIK:T will be holding their annual LesBi conference on 13 March.
