Why is Durban II important for women?
The upcoming
Durban Review Conference will evaluate progress towards the goals set by the World Conference against Racism, Racial Discrimination, Xenophobia and Related Intolerance (WCAR) in Durban, South Africa, in 2001. It will also review progress on identifying and tackling the distinct experiences that various women have of racism, xenophobia and related intolerance.
It is imperative that women’s organisations find out more about the agreements made at the WCAR which can be used to strengthen their existing advocacy and campaigning efforts towards the full realisation of women’s equality. There is also an NGO Declaration and Programme of Action that women’s organisations should also be adhering to.
